Anishnabe Adult Education Centre
Anishnabe Adult Education Centre offers courses that allow students to complete their High School education, acquire academic upgrades, complete required prerequisites for vocational training or post-secondary studies. Anishnabe Adult Education focuses on student success and preparedness, Indigenous studies and traditions.
The Centre is located on Timiskaming First Nation with programming that reflects Anishnabe culture, arts and language. Students have the opportunity to participate in locally developed Option courses that include a monthly Newsletter, Indigenous Arts, and Culinary Arts. As part of the Indigenous Arts course, students create hand drums, drum sticks, paddles, mitts and feather wrapping. The Culinary Arts course introduces students to traditional cooking with moose meat, wild rice and bannock, as well, the students cater community meals. Once per week, a community Elder spends time at the Centre with staff and students to share language and traditional knowledge.
